I Love You, Grandpa

I wasn't sure if I was going to blog about this at first, but it helps me to talk about and share things... and I asked my mom if it was okay, and she said yes...
These are my mom's parents, my grandparents, on their wedding day.
Aren't they beautiful?

Yesterday morning, my Grandpa let go of the grass and joined my Grandma in Heaven, after about 19 years apart.  It helps me to think of them together again, young and happy, like in this picture.

My Grandpa was 89 years old.  Here he is on his birthday:
I love, love this picture.  He is so cute!
At 89, he lived a full life.  He fought in and survived WWII.  He married my Grandma and had six children.  He got to watch his eight grandchildren grow up {the oldest is 27-- I'm the 2nd oldest-- and the youngest is 16}.  He was also able to be at my wedding, which I am so, so grateful for.
Grandpa and all of his grandchildren... I'm in the pink.
I was honored to be asked to make my Grandpa's memory board.  Crafting is my thing, and making it {with the help of my parents and two cousins} was really special for me:
I love my Grandpa with all my heart, and I will miss him every day.  But I know he is in a better place, reunited with those that passed before him.

I'm staying home from school this week, and I won't be online much in the next few days, besides to check in every now and then, but I will be back over the weekend.  I hope everyone has a great rest of the week... :)

"Pick Me!" Pot + Freebie!

This week I decided to "prettify" my method of calling on students.  I bought a terracotta pot, found some green popsicle sticks in my stash-o-supplies, and made a colorful set of class numbers {each of my students is assigned a number}.  I grabbed my hot glue gun, and ended up with this:
I like to refer to it as the "Pick me!" pot :)  I'm lovin' it, and so are my littles!!

Want to make one?? ;)

I turned the class numbers into a little freebie packet for you!  I included numbers 1-36, as well as directions on how to make this simple project.  You could also use the numbers for labeling student items, attendance sticks {my next project lol}, and more!  If you download this set {located on TpT}, I just ask that you leave me some fun feedback!! ;)

This item coordinates with my writing center starter kit:
Aaaand, I have some more coordinating items up my sleeve... be on the lookout!

Have a great Memorial Day!!

Counting Down the Days {Good Things}

To those of you who are already on summer break:  you are lucky ducks!!  For the rest of us... here is a cute summer countdown idea:
It's colorful and fun!  It's a good thing. :)
Here is a shot of how long it is:
Yup, that's our summer countdown, reaching the floor.  Laugh all you want, I can take it!

I saw the idea for this {using a sun instead of a cloud} while browsing Pinterest.  You can see the original post {here}.  I also found these cute ideas:

End of Year Decorating and a Winner!

20 days left!  I thought it was finally close enough to our summer for us to complete a summer project!  Since I decided last minute to craft {I'm a last minute kinda gal}, I chose my take a bite out of summer watermelon craftivity!  It was super, super easy to prepare.  Take a look-see:
I love how this one's seeds get bigger and bigger as they go around!
This little sweetie has a lot planned for summer-- Hershey Park, Lego City... and apparently boogie boarding with me!  Ha! :)  Speaking of boogie boarding....
Hmmm... What do you think this little one likes to do?! :)  I think I influenced them when I told them I would be boogie boarding in SC this summer!
I used these juicy crafts to decorate my classroom door.  Sorry for the bad picture, it was pretty dark in the hallway.  And haha, I still get a kick out of that baseball buddy's expression!  Which reminds me, it's about time I replace those buddies with something else!

Without further ado, the winner of CTP's BW Collection Designer Classroom Set is:
Congrats Kim K.!  {Kim Kardashian..?! lol, jk}  I'll be contacting you shortly!! :)

A Car, a Tip, and a Funny :)

I mentioned in my May Currently that my car lease was up in July... well, my hubs and I went car shopping yesterday!!  We completely didn't expect to leave with a car , but the deal was AMAZING {not much different than what I already paid on my Accord Coupe}, and the car is my DREAM CAR!!!  Here is what we drove home:
Isn't she pretty?!  It's an Infiniti G37.  Gosh, I love it!  Love, love!!

In other news... I have a little, teeny, tiny organizing tip for you:
These are mini spice jars that I use to hold paper clips, binder clips, and other small school supplies.  They don't take up much space, and I think they look pretty cute!

And lastly, I will leave you with a funny picture:
This is a sPEEd BUMp sign outside a local grocery store.  Really?!  It's been that way for years, you'd think someone would replace it!! Cracks me up everytime I pass by :)

Pssst:  Don't forget to enter my giveaway for a Creative Teaching Press classroom set!!  It ends tomorrow night!!

Pssst, pssst:  Thank you to everyone for the great response to my writing center starter kit!! I'm SO GLAD that you all love it as much as I do!!! :) :)

Writing Center/Office Starter Kit & a Giveaway!!

I'm SO excited about this post for two reasons:  I finally made something I've had in the back of my mind for months, *and* I'm hosting a giveaway!!  1261 followers, what??! :)

The first stop on today's post is my new writing center!!  I have seriously been wanting to make one of these for the longest time... well, I finally did it!
I absolutely *love* the way it turned out!!!  I can't wait to introduce writing with it next year!

In the middle I put "I can write" cards and examples for a postcard, poem, recipe, card, list, story, and letter:
Here's a close-up of the left side, where I put some reference sheets for my little ones... topics to write about, what good writers do, and a writing checklist.
The right side has an alphabet chart and some word lists to use as reference, too.
Would you like to make one for your little ones?  I put all the label cards, writing examples, and reference sheets in a writing center starter kit, and you can find it in my TpT shop!  Please let me know what you think! ;)

Now onto the giveaway!!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of CTP's new black and white designer collection to sample, and give away!  I think the colors and patterns are FAB!!  The border I used above is part of the collection, and so is this cute birthday set:
The giant cupcake!  The banner!  It's just too cute!!  I used coloful magnets to arrange the pieces on my chalkboard.

Have no fear, you can own some of the BW Collection too!

To enter, use this Rafflecopter gadget below!
The giveaway ends on Monday, May 21st.  Good luck!

Summer Bucket List Linky.. Won't You Join Us?

Hi everyone!  Summer is just around the corner, woo!!  Besides swimming, tanning, and overall relaxing, we teachers have a lot of things that we want to accomplish before the new school year begins.... a Summer Bucket List, if you will!  And that's why HadarApril, and I decided to throw a Summer Bucket List Linky!
Summer Bucket List

Whether you want to create something for your classroom, bake something new, or take a trip with your hunny, we want you to share!!  Your list might be short, or it might be long!  Be sure to copy the linky button above and link back to this post if you're going to link up :)

Now keep reading to see what I have planned for this summer!

{1} Pixie Stick birthday balloons!! :)
I want to be prepared for birthdays next year!  I currently scramble around when it's someone's birthday... but next year, I will be ready!!  Besides gathering the normal hats, cards, and stickers, I want to make a class set of these.... beforehand.

{2} I'd like to maybe try out the clip-chart management system:
I just hope I can keep up with all the moving up and down the chart!

{3} I plan on organizing my collection of art supplies at home:
This is an over-the-door supplies organizer, and I'm in love.  My hubby will be too, because my art supplies are currently taking over the basement!!

{4} I want/need to bake these:
cookies 'n cream cupcakes...
...and peanut butter iced chocolate cupcakes.
I mean, do I really need to explain?!   Deliciousness!

Besides the four must do's on the list above, I'm excited to SLEEP {gosh, I love to sleep}, SHOP, and CREATE!!  I'm also going on vacation with my hubs and family!  Now tell me... what's on your summer bucket list??

Good Things Round Three... Very Fascinating! ;)

This week went by fast, didn't it?!  I know we still have one school day left, but it's Friday, and for me that means dress down {hello jeans and flippies!}, test day {makes the day fly!} , and a little "Fun Friday" movie action... so it's not too bad!!

Of course, this week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and that's what has inspired my first good thing.  Let's jump right in!

{1} I had my little ones write acrostic poems and letters for me:
Dear Mrs. P... You are the best teacher I had.  Thanks for teaching me everything.  Thank you for making *progects*.  Thank you for helping me.  I wish you are my teacher next year. Love...
I had this little sweetie above for 1st and 2nd grade, and he wants to keep me!!  How CUTE!
Dear Mrs. P... You are the best teacher ever.  You are also helpful, creative, and nice.  You *teached* me a lot that's why we get smart thanks to you.  I am lucky to have a teacher like you.  Love...
Melts my heart!!
Check out "A"... absolute fashionista!  Love it!!
Anywho, enough *bragging* haha!  I put my littles' acrostics and letters in sheet protectors in a binder.  I'm going to make a nice cover and keep it to remember this wonderful class!  If you missed the free download for these "I Love My Teacher" worksheets, grab them {here}.

{2} I tackled a project that I planned for this summer:
They're library sticks, or place holders, for when my kiddos take books out from the library.  I had my husband drill a little hole, then I spray painted them with metallic silver spray paint, and tied a colorful ribbon onto them so they can hang from my library cart:
I am going to add numbers to them so my students know which one belongs to them.  I got the idea for these from Molly at Lessons with Laughter! Thanks, girl!

{3} Last but not least, I was nominated for The Most Fascinationg Blog of 2012 award:
Apparently, one of my posts {Fun Friday Fotos} was very fascinating!  I'm kind of afraid to be in this, because what if I get like, zero votes?  That would be depressing, not fascinating!!  Haha!  Voting starts May 14th, so put it in your calendars! ;)

Pssst.  A couple of my bloggy friends and I have something fun planned for tomorrow, so be sure to check back in with me after school! See you then!! :)

Organize Your Stickers!

After four years of searching and digging for the right sticker, I finally, finally organized my sticker collection!!
I decided I wanted to go the binder route, and as luck would have it, I had an empty one in my basement.  I stopped at Staples on my way home and picked up these dividers:
They are double pocket plastic dividers from Avery {8 tabs}, and they came to about $7.  I popped them in the binder and labeled them:
*September
*October
*November
*December
*January/February
*March/April
*May/June
*Misc.
Sorry for the glare! I had a photoshoot in my living room and that's the best I could do!
Maybe in the future I'd buy more and separate months, or organize by holiday, but as of right now, this division works perfectly for me.  It's a good start... considering this is what I was dealing with:
::Shudder::

Today my little ones made their Mother's Day projects:
Aren't they delicous looking?? :P
If you're looking for a last minute Mother's Day project, or just something fun to make in addition to what you already have, check these out in my TpT shop...
I also have a matching Father's Day project:
Quick! Everything is still on sale in my shop until midnight tonight!!! :)
