Craftivities for President's Day

I've been working on some craftivities for President's Day!  I made a little George Washington craft:
{Can you see his little white eyebrows?!}
And I also made Abraham Lincoln:
...with a little surprise under his hat:
{If I had Abraham Lincoln's hat...}
I heard that good ol' Abe liked to keep things hidden inside his hat, so I created a writing prompt for my students to include with this project {I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, haha}.  You could certainly omit that part of the project, if you wanted.

You can grab both of these pattern sets in my new President's Day {Craftivities: Washington & Lincoln} packet on TpT.

I am waiting for my freebie license from Scrappin' Doodles... when I get it, I have a President's Day freebie for you!  Until then, I hope you enjoy my presidential patterns :)

11 in '11 Linky Party!

I'm linking up with Hadar and Kristen, for their 11 in '11 Linky Party!  I love parties :)

11. Favorite movie you watched: Bridesmaids!!!  I don't know if it's because I was getting married {and dealing with a couple BM issues}, or if it was the fact that my husband {then fiance} is the one who actually SUGGESTED going to SEE the chick flick, or if it's because it was just.plain.HILARIOUS.  But, I love!
10. Favorite TV series:   I have many, many faves, because I.love.TV. but if I had to choose.... I'd say, The Walking Dead!  My brother forced me to watch the season one DVDs and I'm so glad he did!  I finished in time to catch season two, and now I'm HOOKED!!  I also love Desperate Housewives!  So sad that this is the last season :(

9. Favorite restaurant:  The Texas Roadhouse... yum.  Too bad the closest is an hour away.
8. Favorite new thing you tried:  Blogging.
7. Favorite gift you got:  The Coach purse that hubs got me for my birthday!
6. Favorite thing you pinned:  I have dreams of a pantry like this.  Unfortunately, I don't have a pantry.
5. Favorite blog post:  I don't have many to choose from yet, but perhaps Free New Year's Craftivity because I love the way the craft turned out, and I got so many positive responses here and on TpT!
4. Best accomplishment:  This year I threw a fabulous wedding {if I do say so myself!} and I got tenure at my school!
3. Favorite picture:  All pics from my wedding, but gosh I loved this dress <3
2. Favorite memory:  I feel I'm being repetitive, but my wedding was really the highlight of my year!  I spent the better part of almost two years planning, and I thought it came together beautifully. And of course, I married my other half <3
1. Goal for 2012:  To be more organized, and to do things right away, instead of having the "I'll do it later," mentality.

Well, there it is, folks!  Link up!!

Just Pinned: Crafts & More Crafts

I hope everyone had a very merry holiday!!  I know I did.. it was my first Christmas with my new hubs, in our new home :)  We spent the last few days holiday-party-hopping between families, as we have every year since we started dating.  It was tons of fun!!

I've been a Pinterest pinning fool lately, saving my favorite crafts for the second half of the school year.  I thought I'd share some of my faves!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be here before you know it.  This pin is from The First Grade Parade and if you read through Cara's blog post, you can also find the link to the original TLC craft directions!
Moving right along, I found these adorable snowmen and I can't wait to do them in January sometime!  This find comes from Teacher Web.  They have a lot of cute bulletin board ideas there!
If I can get my hands on 20 shovels somewhere, I'm going to use this next one as my Valentine's Day gift for my littles!  I repinned, but I think these beauties come from The Fry Family Blog.
And last, but not least, here is an adorable little project for Earth Day.  This one is from Welcome to Room 36.  It would make a lovely addition to an Earth Day BB!

That's all {for now}!  To see what else I've been pinning, follow me!

Before Break Recap & Happy Holidays!

Let me start by saying...
Happy Holidays!!!!!!!
{Wishing everyone a Merry Holiday & a Happy New Year}
I don't know about you guys, but break = love.  So excited to be on day two of holiday break... and it's Christmas Eve, so some presents are coming my way tonight ;)  I do love presents!  Hehe.

On Wed. and Thurs. at school, we basically just celebrated all.day.long.  Can't complain about that!  We made our sugar cone trees... but I was too lazy to make the frosting green, so our trees were snowy instead:
{yum yum in my tum tum}
I think they came out looking fabulous, and the kids enjoyed it.  It didn't take as long as I would have hoped, haha, so next year I think I will have the kids make two: one to eat now, and one to eat later.

We also made quickie treat bags to hold cards and candy canes from friends:
{topper idea found on Pinterest}
We made these while we watched The Polar Express.  I love that movie.  I love Tom Hanks.  I had this super cute idea locked away in the back of my head to do after watching the movie, but of course it was buried too deep and I completely forgot about it until I was on my way home for the holidays:
{Not sure where I found this pic... if you know, let me know}
In case you can't see the writing, the idea is to put the bells into the freezer, have someone run into your classroom after you finish the movie, and say they found these freeeezing bells that must be straight from the North Pole.  The kids will jingle the bells, and of course, they will hear them ring... Love!  So mad at myself for forgetting!!!  Ah well, next year.

In other news, I just set up my new Pinterest account, so if you'd like to follow me {love ya} you can clickity-click this little button:

Once again, enjoy the holidays!!!!

1.5 Days Left 'Til Break

I will start by saying how JEALOUS I am of every teacher who is off already!!  I only have 1.5 days left... but still :)  This week has been a whirlwind so far, as we complete holiday worksheet after holiday project after more holiday worksheets to pass the time.  Tomorrow, we'll be making sugar cone Christmas trees!!
ice cream cone Christmas trees
{photo courtesy of Pinterest}

I'm sure it will be a mess fun time :) !

While my darlings are elbow deep in green frosting, I need to add the finishing touches to our parent gifts.  If you remember from my linky party post, we were making snowman ornaments.
{Didn't they come out cute?}

We made them last week on Thursday and Friday.  Today my kiddos made snowman gift bags out of lunch bags, and put the ornament (already wrapped in a clear bag) inside that.  I got the idea from this post at Busy Bees {thanks ladies}!  Here's how they turned out:
I still need to add a tag to the gift bags.  I whipped one up that says 'I Love You "SNOW" Much' (as I promised I would!).  I plan on punching a hole at the top of the bag and looping some ribbon through to attach the tags.
I also made a little holiday note from the teacher:
{graphics from Scrappin' Doodles}
I got my little ones books, pencils, erasers, and candy canes.  I found cute snowflake ZipLocs at the Dollar Tree and put the gifts inside.  I'll include this little note so they know it's from me! :)

I hope you're all enjoying holiday break!  I know I will be, come Thursday at one o'clock!!

Free New Year's Craftivity!!!

As any normal person would do, I spent my Friday night creating a New Year's activity to do with my littles during the first week in January :)
It's a phone to RING in the New Year!!  Stapled underneath the numbers are my kid-friendly resolutions:
I also said that I wanted to eat more fruits and veggies, go to bed early and get a lot of rest, and do my homework before I play or watch TV.

If you would like to create this craft with your kiddos, go to my TpT store to download it for free!  {But go quickly, because it's only free for a limited time!!}  In the little packet, you will find the phone pattern, the numbers, four resolution boxes, and three different title choices.  If you head over to TpT, please show me some love and follow my store!  I'd love you forever :)  Heck, I'll love you forever anyway!

Goodnight all, and have a GREAT weekend!!!

Centers and a Freebie

So, you might want to sit down for this one:  I don't use centers in my classroom....... I know, I know, what am I thinking?!  The good news is that I'm trying to incorporate them in my classroom now.  I am going to spend A LOT of time over holiday break putting them together.  But I'm a perfectionist and I want to do it right, so I need your help!

How do you store your centers?  I'm looking for an easy way for groups to grab their center work.  I want everything to be organized and pretty... and inexpensive.

What cheapie supplies can I buy, make, or reuse for my centers?  I'm currently in the process of collecting water bottle caps to use as easy letters:
{I found this cute idea at Kinderpond}

Do you have a cutesy display to show kids which center they should go to on a certain day?  Do you use centers everyday?  How often do you rotate activities (and what are the activities)?  Where do you find the time....?

I guess that's it for my questions.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!  And pictures/links would be awesome if you have them handy.  Comment, or you can always email me at acupcakefortheteacher@gmail.com :)

Speaking of centers, I created some letter tiles of my own to print and use in my word work centers:

You can grab yourself a copy here.  Just print as many copies as you need, cut, and laminate if you want!

And lastly, tomorrow is the last day to enter my giveaway!  $10 to Target.. go now!

Elf Kisses + First TpT Listing!

I started the Elf on the Shelf tradition in my classroom last year.  I'm always looking for new and fun ways to put our elfie around the room, and because of Pinterest and blog stalking, I've found a TON!  I was clicking around, stumbled across the blog Team Johnson, and discovered Elf Kisses!  Here's my take on the idea:

I had some Christmas scrapbook paper left over from another project, so I made a little tag out of it.  I added the words "Elf Kisses" with sparkly red stickers, punched a hole in the tag, tied a ribbon to it, and hung it from a pretty glass jar filled with Hershey Kisses.  Took me about two minutes total, and I had everything already, except for the kisses... I love fast and cheap projects!  I found a good spot for the elf and waited for my students to discover their treat!  The elf I also wrote a poem explaining Elf Kisses, and left a giant Hershey Kiss for me, because I've been extra good of course :)  If you're interested in the poem, let me know and I'll send it to you!

Next up, I've posted my first ever TpT items!  Click on over to my store and check them out :)  There are a couple freebies, as well as reading logs for each month ($1 for all 12), and a Christmas Craftivities pack with five crafts to make with your little ones (just $1.50)!!  Here is a preview of one craft, Triangle Santa:
A little bonus:  Follow my store and comment on my GIVEAWAY post for an extra entry in the chance to win a $10 Target gift card!!

My first Linky Party!!

In my travels, I stumbled upon a Student-Made Holiday Gifts Linky Party, over at Finally in First.  Perfect timing, because I just made a sample of what I plan on making with my students!!  It's a snowman ornament!
To make this ornament, you will need one clear plastic ornament, two pom poms, and half of a pipe cleaner per student.  I used red poms and sparkly green pipe cleaners, but you could use whatever colors you want!  You will also need a couple bags of Buffalo Snow Snowflakes, orange and black paint markers (I recommend Sharpie), and a hot glue gun.  With coupons at a craft store, the final price shouldn't be too bad.

First, have your students pop the top off and fill the ornament about 2/3 of the way full with snowflakes.  Replace the top securely.  Next, invite students up one or two at a time to draw snowman faces with the paint markers.  They (or you) can also write the date on the back.

The last part requires a hot glue gun, so it's for teachers only!!  You will need to cut a pipe cleaner in half, shape it into a half circle, and then hot glue it to the sides of the ornament.  Hot glue your pom poms to the ends of the pipe cleaner to complete the ear muffs.  Now you're done!  Let the ornaments completely dry, place them in a clear gift bag, and tie them with a ribbon and a little tag that says, "I love you SNOW much!"... or something cute and corny like that!!

Rudolph, With Your Nose So Bright!

Today, my littles made a super cute Rudolph reindeer craft! :)
Here is a pic of my completed Rudolph bulletin board:
I wanted to put "may YOUR days" in the title, but I ran out of little y's :)  Here is a close-up of my sample reindeer...

My kids loved making their little Rudolphs!

{Update}
 I edited the pattern and turned it into a mini reindeer unit!  Head to my TpT shop to learn more about reindeer games {craftivity & printables}! :)

Yay, I'm here!

Hiii, everyone!!  This is my first attempt at a blog, and I'm so excited!  When I finished planning my wedding, I needed something else to become obsessed with... and in walked the world of teaching blogs!  I spend my days checking up on my favorites and discovering new blogs to fall in love with... I hope to become one of those blogs for you :)  I absolutely love my job, and I love to create new craftivities whenever I can.  I can't wait to share my ideas with you :)

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Alicia over at Dreamlike Magic Designs for this GORGEOUS design!  It fits my theme perfectly!!
